Description
Range positioned this 24-unit apartment building to activate a prominent corner near the University of Arkansas campus. The design responds to its corner location by providing private balconies facing both streets, creating visual interest and allowing residents to engage with neighborhood life.
A private central courtyard serves as the building's organizing element, providing residents with shared outdoor space removed from street activity. The compact one-bedroom units maximize livability through high ceilings, large windows, and private balconies that strengthen connections between dwelling units and nature.
The building's exterior combines fiber cement, timber, and stone with an expressive sheltering roof featuring decorative exposed rafter tails. These material choices create a residential character appropriate to the neighborhood context while providing durability and visual warmth.
The project exemplifies how apartment buildings can serve as good neighbors, contributing to street life and community character while providing quality housing for students and young professionals in a university town setting.
