Description
Range Co’s Luke Osburn worked directly with Kith and Kin owner Justin to create a mural that gives his hair salon a clear identity along a busy commuter corridor. The portrait of "Messy Maude,” inspired by early 1900s actress Maude Fealy, captures the creative, artisanal character of the business while functioning as a recognizable landmark.
The design emerged from close attention to how people encounter the building. Most views happen during morning and afternoon commutes, so the color palette uses high-contrast tones that read clearly in early and late-day light. Maude's expressive face and flowing hair reference the salon's craft directly. The layered landscape background in warm ochres, greens, and purples establishes a rural aesthetic that reflects the business and its neighborhood.
Small interventions like this shape how people experience their daily routes. We’re proud that Range's team includes designers who work across disciplines—from building design to the public art that gives neighborhoods their character.
