Painted Babies Recognized for Affordability
-

In a new Public Square article, the four mini houses we designed on 9th Street in Fayetteville, Arkansas were recognized for achieving a difficult feat: affordability without subsidy.
Homebuyers budget in whole dollars - not price per square foot - and these homes, which listed at $150,000, were by far the least expensive new construction in the neighborhood. The one-bedroom homes are comfortable for singles and couples. At the time they sold, the mortgage payments were half the rent of typical one-bedroom apartment in Fayetteville.
While the developer could have built one large home on the site, the smaller and cuter route resulted in homes that sold very quickly, establishing the demand for small, well-located homes in the area.
