South Street Cottages — our walkable infill development in the heart of Fayetteville, Arkansas — has been named a 2026 Charter Award winner by the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU).
CNU is the leading U.S. organization promoting walkable, mixed-use neighborhood development, sustainable communities, and healthier living conditions. The CNU Charter Awards, given annually since 2001, are the preeminent award for urban design, placemaking, and community building. Each year, projects are evaluated on their exemplary efforts in revitalizing cities, towns, neighborhoods, districts and corridors, and metropolitan regions — with winners selected not just for embodying the principles of the Charter, but for making a positive difference in people's lives.
The South Street Cottages neighborhood is a walkable infill development just six blocks southeast of the Fayetteville Downtown Square. The master plan includes nine cottages, two ADUs, twelve townhomes, and a corner retail building with apartments above. The project was recognized in the category of The Block, The Street, and The Building — the scale at which design most directly shapes the daily experience of residents and neighbors.
For us, this project represents everything we believe about what good placemaking looks like: modestly scaled, human-centered, and rooted in the existing fabric of a neighborhood. This recognition from CNU is a profound honor.
